Sue Gorgon is a recurring character in the Apple TV+ streaming series Mythic Quest. She is Mythic Quest Studios' community manager, interacting directly with the player base and their complaints. Sue is portrayed by Caitlin McGee, first mentioned in the episode "The Casino" and first appearing in the episode "Dinner Party".
Sue is Mythic Quest's wholesome, upbeat, repressed Community Manager. As Community Manager, it is Sue's job to handle player feedback, which results in her receiving a constant barrage of hateful messages. Mythic Quest players seemingly go to great lengths to be extremely harsh on her, such as writing handwritten letters so that her email cannot filter out their strong or offensive language.
Biography[]
Working at Mythic Quest Studios[]
Sue Gordon works as the Community Manager for Mythic Quest Studios, serving as the direct conduit between Mythic Quest players and the studio. Her office is in the basement, and her keycard doesn't allow her to access the main levels. Sue receives the player feedback, which is primarily negative and hateful, although the email filters attempt to stop the worst language getting through to her. However, the player base resorts to sending handwritten letters of complaint because they can't filter out the written word.[1]
Sue alerted Poppy Li to Brad Bakshi turning off the in-game store and setting all the items to free after Poppy told him that he wasn't needed.[2] Sue was later contacted by Kotaku when they discovered that the game had a Nazi problem within its playerbase. Calling David down to her office, she informs him of the problem. As the developers and staff attempt to address the problem with varying degrees of success, Sue is worried that Ian is seemingly embracing the Nazis with his attempts to draw them out when the ideal number of Nazis within the game would be zero.[1]
A tour group from Girls Can Code visit Mythic Quest Studios, and David took the group to talk to Sue as she was one of the few women working in the studio. After describing her job, Sue sternly warned that the girls should never take on the job of a community manager.[3]
In "Permadeath," she tells David that she has also been doxxed by their players many times.
Personality[]
Due to the stressful nature of her job, Sue's office is located in the basement, far away from the rest of the studio. Her key card only allows her access to the basement office, though she does offhandedly express that she would like to be able to go visit the main office so that she can interact with her coworkers and see daylight. The abuse she suffers at the hands of MQ's players, combined with her isolation, would logically set her up to be a very depressed person. However, she is actually very kind, mild-mannered, and cheerful, which David describes as "much worse."[1] It is implied that she carries a lot of repressed anger and has adopted this aggressively positive persona as a sort of coping mechanism for the awful treatment she receives. When a tour group from Girls Can Code talks to her, Sue describes her role as "You know how, when you just get so mad and frustrated that you just wanna scream into a pillow? You know, when you're mad at your mom? Well, I guess you could say for our player community, I'm kinda like their mom. And... the pillow."[3]
She reveals herself on a couple of occasions to be a devout Christian.
During her short amount of screentime, Sue has been shown to be close friends with David. They frequently spend time together in Sue’s office, chatting about their lives and co-workers.
