A shovel was an item introduced in the Raven's Banquet expansion for Mythic Quest. It was created by Poppy Li as an incidental part of an expansion, and intended solely for use with the new game mechanic of digging and reshaping the terrain. With days to go until launch, Ian Grimm was not entirely satisfied with the concept and began "noodling" with the design in an effort to make it perfect. Poppy believed the shovel was perfect as it was, and leaked the addition to the influential streamer Pootie Shoe who ended up hating it. Eventually, Poppy and Ian worked together to give the shovel another use as a weapon, and it became the fastest selling item in the game once the expansion was released.[1]
A real life shovel was later used in the office as a symbol of Pop's creativity, and she proudly held one aloft to indicate her acceptance of the Co-Creative Director title.
