Mythic Quest Wiki

"Peter" was the seventh episode of season 2 of Mythic Quest. Like its immediate predecessor it omitted most of the regular cast -- so much so that it was the only episode to never utilize either Rob McElhenney or Charlotte Nicdao in front of the camera. Instead, it was essentially a three-hander between Ashly Burch, F. Murray Abraham, and guest William Hurt. It picked up on the events of the last episode and gave some closure to the story about C.W. Longbottom's past.

Synopsis[]

C.W. has Rachel drive him to Peter's estate in 2021 in the hopes of settling old scores from the 1970s.

Plot[]

Thinking she might gain some pearls of wisdom from C.W. that might help her at work, Rachel drives him to a mysterious location. Quickly, Rachel discovers that C.W. is on a mission to extract vengeance on, or at least an apology from, Peter Cromwell, an apparent frenemy from C.W.'s earliest days in the publishing business.

C.W. has every intention of proving that his life is better than Peter's, because he believes Peter stole "the love of his life", fellow writer, the late A.E. Goldsmith. Likewise, Peter believes that C.W. has returned to his life because Longbottom wishes to apologize for breaking up their friendship decades ago.

In fact, neither is right. Ginny, Peter's daughter, has arranged the meeting through mutual deception. She wishes the two old friends to make up before her father dies.

At first, neither man is having any part of Ginny's scheme, but after C.W. gets blindingly drunk and Peter has time to cool off, they do, in fact, make up. Ginny reveals that her mother bought a copy of Mythic Quest at the age of 70, because she was proud that Longbottom had finally realized his 1970s fever dream of writing a video game. Soon after he realizes A.E. was proud of him, he decides to confess to Peter that he had read all of Cromwell's Hamerfall Cycle, and that he wished that the story had concluded with the 20th adventure in the series.

Having found the unpublished 20th novella, C.W. asks his friend to read the adventure out loud to him.
