Doc, real name Michael, is a video game developer. He gained his nickname when he met his future partner, Beans, and they discussed the video game Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Bonding over their desire to create a game unlike others on the market, they produced Dark Quiet Death, a game with no end and only a flashlight as a weapon to keep monsters at bay.
The game was successful, leading Doc and Beans to create Oubliette Studios and begin to work on the sequel, Dark Quiet Death II. However, the pressures working for investors and their constant demands for changes from the original premise of the game, led Doc and Beans to split up.
The Dark Quiet Death franchise led to a movie starring Tiffany Winters, and Doc eventually married her. While working on the next game in the series, Doc became increasingly frustrated with the investor demands, which included spinning off a monster character, Roscoe. Doc gave them an ultimatum - him or Roscoe. They chose Roscoe.
