Dana Bryant is one of the main characters in the Apple TV+ streaming series Mythic Quest. She is game tester for Mythic Quest, working alongside Rachel. Dana is portrayed by Imani Hakim, first appearing in the episode "Pilot".
Dana is a youthful and studious video game tester. She's reluctant to rock the boat at her dream job, but cannot avoid getting caught in the storm of her God-playing coworkers. Dana is also a streamer and particularly likes video games, making late nights at Mythic Quest easier to bear.
Her fellow game tester, Rachel, has feelings for her and it's hinted that she reciprocates. Dana is particularly fond of Rachel out of everyone at Mythic Quest. In one episode, when Dana is about to lose her job, fellow coworkers Brad and Rachel help her salvage it.
Biography[]
Working at Mythic Quest Studios[]
Dana started working at Mythic Quest Studios six months before the launch of Raven's Banquet, testing the game and logging bugs all day alongside Rachel.[1] Dana also played the game in her free time, using her own character avatar, "Toksvig", and playing between the hours of eight and midnight.[2] Dana considered it the best job she ever had but did not want to draw attention to herself and her contributions in the same way that Rachel did, despite Rachel telling her that she had great ideas.[1]
Dana and Rachel were required to log all the bugs from Brad Bakshi's janky new casino that he had made by a studio in Bucharest, requiring them to work throughout the night. Dana initially said that she had plans and Rachel offered to cover for her. However, Dana postponed her plans and the pair worked throughout the night logging bugs and then having fun around the office, including eating the last of Poppy's ice-cream sandwiches. After logging over one hundred bugs, Rachel went home, watched longingly by Dana.[2]
After a Nazi problem was discovered within the Mystic Quest player base, Dana was asked to join an Ethics Committee organized by David Brittlesbee to determine which groups and types of people should be banned from the game. Eventually, the group settled on an answer: Nazis.[3] Dana later attended StreamerCon, taking Poppy Li since she needed a ride. While Poppy, Ian Grimm, and Brad Bakshi searched for a new streamer to play Mythic Quest, Dana enjoyed the convention. Poppy saw her playing Mythic Quest and entertaining an audience so she suggested to Ian and Brad that Dana became their new streamer. After seeing Dana give inspiring advice to a tour group from Girls Can Code back at the studio, Ian and Brad decided that Dana should be their new streamer.[4]
Relationship with Rachel[]
After everyone comes back from quarantine, Dana is keen for her relationship with Rachel to progress. But her reluctance to honestly express her emotions gets in the way.
Dana and Rachel finally kiss in a parking garage, once Dana resolves to actually express how she feels. Following Carol's advice, she stops Rachel from continuing on an analytical path that would only incrementally advance their relationship. Instead, she simply kisses Rachel with abandon, ending the Rachel's paralysing fears. Still, Rachel has to come to the realisation that the kiss was not a dream. One of the things that helps her make the transition to the new reality is the fact that their kiss is blocking Carol's departure from work. She abruptly tells them to get out of the way so she can get home.
